While Bangladeshis fought against Pakistan for independence, India helped the Bangladeshi freedom fighters for its own interest- to weaken the enemy Pakistan. Additionally, there shouldn't be any honor or excuse for Indian looting of Bangladeshi movable properties.

This is a normal thing by any greedy army to loot movable properties of a country to take home after the end of a war. However, looting is not an acceptable norm in a civilized warfare, which actually shatters the moral high ground,
It is reported that there were standoffs in the Western sector between Bengali freedom fighters with the Indian army. One significant one was with a Bengali freedom fighter popularly known as Major Jalil in the Josore front when he opposed the Indian army carry machinary parts over to India. However, it is not clear if this was an Indian government policy. For details see “Mujibur Rahman” in Mofizul Islam (ed.) Upmohadesher Rajniti O Baikthitto (Politics and Personalities of the Subcontinent), p. 49.
In December 1971, I personally witnessed empty farriers travelling from Demagri of Mizooram in India to Rangamati of Bangladesh, each time returning to Demagri loaded with army truck, jeep, cars and other movable properties. The commander of the ferry was an Indian Sikh officer. Surely, if Mujib didn't surrender, the war could have been fought with better show of respect by Indian soldiers to the integrity of Bangladesh. কবি নজরুলের সাথে কামরুন্নেসার বিবাহের কথা ছিল। ভালবেসে তিনি তার নাম দেন নার্গিস। নার্গিসের সাথে বিরহ চলাকালীন কুমিল্লার বাসভবনে রাত্রিকালে তিনি রচনা করেন "বাতায়ন পাশে গুবাক তরুর সারি"। নজরুল নার্গিসকে স্মরে ব্যাথিত হৃদয়ে কান্নার জলে এই কবিতা রচনা করেন, যার কিছু অংশ বিশেষ স্থান পায় নজরুলের সমাধি গাত্রে। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মসজিদের পাশে চিরনিদ্রায় শায়িত আছেন তিনি। আর তার সমাধির ওপর নিম্নলিখিত পংক্তিমালা লিখিত আছে। ঢাকায় যারা থাকেন তারা চাইলে কবর যিয়ারতের পাশাপাশি এই লিখা দেখে আসতে পারেন...।।
